As a result of a decision at european level, stricter standards have been in force in Europe for a number of years for the product group of indoor sunprotection. (EN 13120) This together with 2 other standards to protect against strangulation risks with cord or chain loops for children. (EN 16433 and EN 16434)

The norms determine amongst other that a cord or chain has to hang at least 150 cm above the floor level. This results in many livingrooms in short chains or cords that need to be rolled up around a special developed system that you need to fix on the wall. 

Of course much easier systems have been developed. One of the most popular solutions to make a product child safe, is electical control. When you choose for electrical control, no chains and cords are involved, but you can control your sunprotection via a remote or switch control. Even voice control is at that point possible.

Because the demand for child safe products is very large, more and more solutions are being introduced on the market that are easy in use but also completely in order with the child safety norm. We already have a few new systems for roller blinds, pleated blinds and horizontal aluminium blinds.
